What is Meowdoku?

Meowdoku is a free logic puzzle that blends Sudoku's constraints with Minesweeper's deduction. Every board is divided into colored regions, and you have to place exactly one cat in each region while keeping cats out of one another's rows, columns and diagonals. It looks cosy and plays sharp: the rules take under a minute to learn, but a single placement can unlock the whole grid - or quietly wreck it. No timers, no lives pressure, and it plays fully offline.

1

Learn the three rules

One cat per colored region, one cat per row and per column, and no two cats touching - not even diagonally. That is the entire rulebook.

2

Take every forced cat

A region with only one usable square, or a row down to a single open cell, is a free placement. Bank all of them before you start thinking.

3

Mark Xs after each cat

Every cat rules out its row, its column, the rest of its region and all eight neighbours. Clearing those squares is what makes a hard board easy.

4

Never guess

You get three hearts and no undo. When nothing is forced, hunt for a locked region or count rows together instead of tapping and hoping.

Meowdoku rules from top players

Hunt locked regions

If every square a region can still use sits in one row, that row's cat has to come from that region - so every other square in the row can be marked.

Count lines, not cats

On hard boards, read two or three rows together. If the same few regions can feed them all, those regions are spoken for and the rest of those lines is dead.

Most constrained first

Skip the busy regions. Find the region with the fewest open squares; two candidates left usually settles the row or column it sits in as well.

A bad X costs nothing

A wrong X marker costs a second. A wrong cat costs a heart. When you are not certain, mark instead of placing - the board will tell you when it is ready.

Meowdoku FAQ

Quick answers to the questions players ask most.

How do I play Meowdoku?

The board is divided into colored regions, and you place exactly one cat in each region. No two cats may share a row or a column, and no two cats may touch - not even diagonally. Double-tap a square to place a cat. There is no timer; you get three hearts, so every move has to be justified rather than guessed.

Is Meowdoku free to play?

Yes. Meowdoku is free on both Google Play and the App Store, supported by ads and optional in-app purchases. You never have to pay to finish a board.

How many levels does Meowdoku have?

Meowdoku ships with more than 15,000 cat-themed levels, starting on small boards and growing into genuinely demanding grids. We currently publish a full video walkthrough for 1,370 of them, with more added as they are solved.

Where can I find Meowdoku level solutions?

Every walkthrough on this site pairs a full YouTube video solve with a written strategy for that level. Search your level number on the levels page to jump straight to it.

Why do I keep getting stuck on the same level?

Most stuck boards are not a missing insight but a bad X marker - one square ruled out that the solution still needed. Re-check your Xs before hunting for a new deduction, then look for a region whose candidates all sit in a single row or column.

Does Meowdoku work offline?

Yes. Once installed, Meowdoku plays fully offline. There are no timers and no online requirement during normal play, so it works on a flight or a commute with no signal.
